Safeguarding
At Lovewise we recognise the need to provide a safe and caring environment for children and young people. We acknowledge that children and young people can be the victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and neglect.
Our foundational principles regarding the care of children originate from the Bible. Christ summarised the second table of the law in these words: “love your neighbour as yourself” (Mark 12:31) Children, therefore will be cared for and attended to with self-sacrificial love characteristic of a calling to obedience in Christ. Christ stated “See that you do not despise one of these little ones” (Matthew 18:10) He warns that anyone unrepentant of sin towards a child will be subject to punishment before the living God (Matthew 18:6). Children therefore have a right to be protected from “all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s) or any other person who has the care of the child.” (Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 19, Section 1) The Lovewise charity has therefore adopted the procedures set out in this safeguarding policy in accordance with statutory guidance.
Lovewise is committed to:
